Linux Team Lead-Richardson
The Linux Team Lead has the ability and understanding of how to work as an independent contributor under general direction of ETC IT/IS Manager, to work as a subject matter expert on Oracle, Symbian, centos, Ubuntu, Redhat and other Linux Operating Systems and to work as the leader of the Linux/Storage team. He/she has an innovative approach and is willing to learn and apply new technology. Should be able to work as a contributor to multiple project teams, and is able to fulfil one or multiple roles in the implementation and system maintenance processes. This position will serve as the Linux Team Lead to guide the Linux/Storage team to provision and deploy Linux based OS on VMWare ESXi infrastructure with NAS and SAN storage Back End. This individual must be highly organized; is able communicate regularly on project and task progress with various levels of the organization; responsible for resolving issues in a timely manner; must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Manage and maintain application health and performance. Use good judgment in independent problem solving and problem solving efforts
Lead the Linux team in the implementation of configuration changes, as well as backing out an unsuccessful change.
Provide coaching and mentoring for direct reports development and career growth
Monitor individual employee's performance and provide timely performance feedback.
Establish impact to service and environment for executed changes and provide stakeholders with downtime notifications and status updates in a timely manner
Authoring and self-accountable of technical documentation of the newly implemented systems within the Linux team
Manages the Linux team to ensure that project delivery dates are met and incorporates the guidance from the IT/IS manager to adjust the Linux team's tasks based on needs of the department
Is proactive, keeps in sync with stakeholders and informs them timely on potential issues or risks. Equally comfortable to work independently or as a member of a team.
Comply with change control and release management policies and procedures.
Analyze current systems and infrastructure, which includes requirements analysis and engineering estimates, and assist with sizing activities
Require In-depth knowledge of Linux Distributions (Centos, Redhat, Oracle Linux)
7+ years. professional systems maintenance experience in a Linux data center environment
3+ years of systems administration team leadership, preferably in a Linux environment
Proven experience installing, supporting and troubleshooting Linux on various hardware makes/models as well as in virtualized environments
Strong experience with system management tools, logical file systems, and server environments.
Ability to write scripts to automate regular operational tasks (Shell Scripting)
Solid understanding of Linux-based operating system including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), etc is a must
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to help build an environment with automated deployments and automated testing as a standard way of doing business.
Demonstrated proficiency of Linux and UNIX administration concepts and best practices for Red Hat Linux, Oracle Linux, and Solaris in an enterprise computing environment.
Demonstrated leadership capability; able to help guide, motivate and collaborate
Ability to work in a 24/7 environment, and participate in an on call rotation
Perform additional tasks as assigned
Strong knowledge of enterprise class SAN storage technologies. Preferably, EMC VNX and HP 3par platforms with Cisco UCS blade chassis.
Have a thorough understanding of the software development life cycle and storage administration concepts (NAS/Scale-out NAS/SAN)
Scripting or programming proficiency (Perl, Shell, Python, PHP, JAVA, C/C++, etc.) and skilled in some or most (in priority order) of the following tools: ETL/TALEND, Jboss, SQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, GIT, JSF, CDI, EJB, JPA, XML, HTML, WSDL.
